OUR COMMITMENT TO THE PLANET

At ChicoBag we understand that there is always more we can do to help kick single-use. That is why we have instituted a number of environmental programs, designed to make our business cleaner and planet healthier. While we understand that we all have a long way to go solving the environmental problems we all face, it is our belief that by taking it one step at a time, we will make a difference.

CHICOBAG MATERIALS ZERO-WASTE PROGRAM

Reusable bags sometimes wear out, but we don’t want to see them in the landfill when they do. We have an active repurposing and recycling program for all brands and types of reusable bags. ChicoBag® doesn’t want ANY reusable bag to be left in a dark closet or sent to a landfill.

CHICOBAG HEADQUARTERS WASTE DIVERSION PROGRAM

After listening to Dave Chameides (aka Sustainable Dave) talk about his decision  not to throw anything away for an entire year, Andy Keller, ChicoBag President, thought, “hey I bet we can do that”. That was the beginning of our waste diversion  program.

The average American contributes over 130 pounds of waste to a landfill per month  - the entire ChicoBag office contributes less than 30! We at ChicoBag are proud  to say that we have significantly reduced our waste stream. Each employee is responsible  for sorting their personal waste into the appropriate recycling, compost, or landfill bins. With this system in place each employee’s impact on the landfill is less than one pound per month. Our compost is enjoyed by our office pets – a small flock of    silkie chickens who have quite an appetite.

CHICOBAG® AND GREEN AMERICA

Green America SealChicoBag has made it a top priority to become a member of Green America (formerly Co-op America). Green America is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting green business. We believe Green America holds us and many other businesses to the highest of social and environmental standards.

“To become a member of Green America’s Green Business Network®, businesses must submit an application to be reviewed by Green America’s Screening Team, which is appointed by and reports to Green America’s board of directors, investigates each applying company to determine the following:

1) It’s familiarity with and commitment to social and environmental responsibility

2) Significant action in terms of this commitment.

Green America’s research team also seeks independent data to verify company information.”

ChicoBag has been qualified by Green America based on our involvement with the community,            customer services, healthy workplace and commitment to the environment. Our commitment  to each of these areas is evident through our unique partnerships and educational resources, product repurposing programs, waste-diversion policies and our promise to help humanity kick the single-use bag habit.
